As mobile devices and their supporting software advance, there are times where the variety of hardware makers and the included software present some incompatibilities with Mi-Token, or perhaps you are more comfortable working with an already known platform.

For such cases, Mi-Token is fully compatible with soft-tokens and the Microsoft Authenticator App. If you decide or require to use this alternative, be it for personal preference, to comply with a corporate policy, or as a workaround for a compatibility issue, Mi-Token soft-tokens can be assigned and used in Microsoft Authenticator.

How to set up a Mi-Token soft-token in Microsoft Authenticator

Get a new soft-token provisioning URL, either from the AD Users and Computers window or from the Mi-Token self-provisioning portal.

Make sure the Mi-Token mobile app is not installed on the mobile device. If it is, uninstall it. Be aware that any configured token will be lost.

Go to the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Download and install Microsoft Authenticator:

Open the new soft-token provisioning URL on your mobile device. The device will open the default browser and navigate to the Mi-Token mobile services. Mi-token will verify the URL, and if correct, the browser will present the new soft-token web page with options to configure it on the device:

Select "Use Google Authenticator for Mi-Token". The App will launch and ask for your confirmation to set the token:

Click "Okay". The soft token will be set in the app and it will start producing OTPs.

"demo" is present in this screenshot as a sample. It should reflect your installation or company's name in a production environment. To the right of the OTP you will see a circle-shaped timer. Once the circle is consumed, the OTP will change. That is the time you have left to use the OTP before it renders invalid.

You can now use Microsoft Authenticator, Mi-Token HD and Mi-Token Authenticator to validate your credentials.
